About Somboon Legacy Foundation
An ethical hands-off elephant sanctuary in Kanchanaburi, Thailand
Somboon Legacy Foundation is a Non-Government Organization (NGO), that takes care of old, ill, handicapped and rescued elephants.
Our organization was founded on the 13th of March 2019, Thailand's National Elephant Day.
Our purpose is to rescue and rehabilitate elephants from a life of stress and cruel exploitation.
Currently, we are taking care of two beautiful elephants, Kammoon and Malee.
We offer ethical tours that provide insights into the nature and importance of these majestic animals. We want to be an example of the ethical change in the animal tourism industry, and we offer a completely hands-off experience for our visitors. Physical human contact is limited to the mahouts only (elephant caretakers).
Our visitors can choose from a variety of packages: You may visit us and have a daily tour or you may stay with us for two, three or seven days.
We allow small groups with a maximum of 12 adult visitors to ensure that we don’t disturb the elephants. Children (accompanied by their parents) under the age of 13 can join free of charge, as the future of wildlife is in their hands.
Our goal is to let our elephants live and interact naturally, foraging in an area where they roam freely. We are working together with the Mahidol Wildlife Hospital, who provide us with health care for the elephants.
Stay in the breath-taking Legacy River Kwai Resort
We have partnered with The Legacy River Kwai Resort, where you enjoy a fulfilling accommodation. The resort is a log-cabin property, perched on the bank of the River Kwai Noi.
On 120 acres (300 rai), amidst a mountainous range, green forest, and the sparkling River Kwai Noi, this green land and natural park-like resort and hotel is nestled, among a beautifully landscaped environment with meandering waterways.
The resort’s main goal is to incorporate a healthy living experience with nature, offering as well spa facilities for relaxation.
We enjoy working together with the local community, who support us in taking care of the elephants by supplying us with banana trees and growing crops for us, such as bana grass, at a fair price.
